ChatGPT’s Advanced Photoshop Control: Color, Long Exposure, and Complex Cutouts

Clip title: ChatGPT Can Now ACTUALLY Use Photoshop, and It’s Impressive Author / channel: Glyn Dewis URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGsgdObKOZA

Summary

The video demonstrates ChatGPT’s impressive capability to control and execute complex editing tasks within Adobe Photoshop, building on a previous video that showcased its integration with Lightroom. The main topic revolves around answering the common user question of whether ChatGPT can manipulate Photoshop as effectively as it handles Lightroom. Through three distinct, challenging photo editing scenarios, the presenter, Glyn Dewis, illustrates the AI’s surprising proficiency and intelligence.

The first key point explored is color correction. Glyn presents an image of a biker with a noticeable color cast and prompts ChatGPT to neutralize it non-destructively, ensuring editability. ChatGPT successfully identifies the issue and applies a “Neutral colour – Curves” adjustment layer, utilizing a Color blend mode to effectively correct the cast while preserving the image’s brightness and contrast. The second task involves creating a long exposure effect with moving clouds on a car photograph. ChatGPT intelligently selects the sky, places it on a smart object layer, and applies a “Radial Blur” filter. Crucially, the AI recognizes the need to adjust the blur’s origin to the bottom of the image, perfectly mimicking natural cloud movement – a technique the presenter notes he would also employ.

For the third and most challenging task, Glyn instructs ChatGPT to perform a precise cutout of a Viking portrait, focusing on the intricate details of hair and beard against a gray background. ChatGPT utilizes Photoshop’s “Select and Mask” feature, demonstrating its ability to refine edges and create a detailed, editable layer mask. While acknowledging that the result isn’t absolutely perfect (with some minor residue around loose hairs), the presenter is highly impressed with the AI’s overall performance on such a complex subject. The AI even goes a step further by renaming the output layer, showcasing an unexpected level of sophistication.

In conclusion, the video highlights that ChatGPT’s current ability to control Photoshop is remarkably effective, exhibiting a deep understanding of various tools and non-destructive workflows. Glyn emphasizes that this level of AI capability is only the beginning, stating that “this is the worst it will ever be,” implying rapid future advancements. He also touches upon the potential for AI to auto-generate tutorials with embedded screenshots, suggesting a revolutionary shift in how creative professionals learn and work.

Description

ChatGPT can now take control of your computer, using the mouse and keyboard to work through a job the way you would, but can it actually use Photoshop? To find out, I gave it three tasks: fixing a colour cast, creating a long exposure sky effect, and the one I get asked about more than anything, cutting out hair. It isn’t generating new pictures; it’s working in Photoshop with the same tools you and I use, and leaving everything as editable layers and masks. Here’s how it got on, what impressed me, where it fell short, and where I think this is heading.
