Summary
Here’s a summary of the video:
The video provides a discussion and demonstration of FilmCraft, an open-source, AI-assisted video editing application designed as a clone of Adobe Premiere Pro. The speaker, Jered, explores the rise of open-source software built with AI tools, highlighting both the potential and the inherent security risks of downloading such projects. He shares his personal experience testing FilmCraft, explaining how he used automated tools to evaluate its source code for potential vulnerabilities.
Jered demonstrates how to run a code review using a custom evaluation tool on GitHub to assess open-source software before installation. He outlines the risks associated with AI-generated or community-contributed code, such as malware, prompt injection, and hidden telemetry. Using FilmCraft as a case study, he walks through the evaluation results, which indicated the software was largely safe with minor considerations.
In conclusion, the speaker emphasizes the importance of verifying open-source projects before downloading them, cautioning viewers against blindly trusting software recommendations found on social media. He suggests that while AI-assisted development tools are powerful, developers and users must remain vigilant about security. The video serves as a reminder to balance enthusiasm for free, open-source software with rigorous security checks.

Description
In this video I go through what I check before installing anything from GitHub, run my repo evaluator skill on FilmCraft, and show what it found.
Then I open FilmCraft itself and show the version I modified with Claude Code to add what I always wanted in Premiere.
Correction: I say these apps were made by reverse engineering or decompiling. The project describes FilmCraft as a clean-room reimplementation that contains no Adobe code.
