Summary
Here’s a clear, well-structured summary of the video content:
Main Topic
The video explores the capabilities of EffectCraft, an application designed for motion graphics, animation, and visual effects, by testing its integration with Codex using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). The speaker demonstrates how Codex can directly communicate with and control EffectCraft software to create animated promotional videos from a written prompt, without manual intervention.
Key Points Discussed
- EffectCraft & MCP Integration: EffectCraft supports MCP, allowing AI tools like Codex to directly issue commands, create compositions, manage layers, apply effects, and set keyframes.
- Experiment 1 (2D Motion Graphics): Codex was tasked with creating a 15–20 second 2D promotional sequence for a fictional technology company named “Nova.” The AI handled everything from installation and setup to creating the layout, colors, typography, and logo reveal.
- Experiment 2 (3D Mechanical Animation): A second, more complex experiment involved creating a 3D futuristic mechanical structure with a spherical core, rotating rings, depth of field, and multiple lighting effects. The result featured over 160 layers and 1,200+ keyframes.
- Technical vs. Creative Quality: While the technical execution by Codex was praised—successfully producing fully editable, complex projects in under 18 minutes—the speaker noted that the creative output was somewhat basic and could be improved with more detailed prompts and creative direction from a human designer.
Conclusions & Takeaways
The video concludes that while AI tools like Codex cannot yet completely replace an experienced motion graphics designer, they are exceptionally useful for generating initial compositions and handling heavy technical animation work. The speaker views EffectCraft’s MCP integration as a powerful technical achievement and invites viewers to share their thoughts on whether AI-driven motion graphics have a bright future.

Description
Can AI replace Adobe After Effects? In this episode of Applorable, I put EffectCraft MCP to the test by letting OpenAI Codex create professional motion graphics and 3D animations from scratch!
EffectCraft is an alternative to Adobe After Effects that supports Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing AI agents like Codex to control the software directly.
Rather than manually creating animations, adjusting keyframes or positioning layers, I gave Codex two creative challenges and let it handle the entire production.
Experiment 1: AI Creates a 2D Animation
Experiment 2: AI Creates a 3D Animation
Next, I pushed EffectCraft further, asking Codex to produce a cinematic 3D sequence featuring rotating mechanical components, moving cameras, lighting effects, reflections and a dramatic logo reveal.
The results were fascinating!
- 162 editable layers
- 1,203 keyframes
- Six lights
- Animated 3D camera movements
- Rotating mechanical components
- Reflections, depth of field and motion blur
- A finished 1080p video and ProRes HQ export
Both experiments produced editable EffectCraft projects, demonstrating how AI agents can automate complex motion graphics workflows through MCP.
But are the results actually good enough to compete with Adobe After Effects? And can AI replace the work of a professional motion graphics designer?
