Elementary particles

Fundamental constituents of matter that, according to the standard-model, possess no internal structure.

Classification

  • Fermions (Matter particles):
    • Quarks: Particles that experience the strong interaction.
    • Leptons: Including electrons and neutrinos.
  • Bosons (Force carriers):
    • Gauge bosons: Mediators of fundamental forces, such as Gluons and Photons.

Substructure Research

  • Compositeness: Ongoing investigation into whether particles currently classified as elementary actually possess internal constituents.
  • LHC CMS Experiment Tests for Quark Substructure: Experimental testing via the CMS Experiment at the LHC to search for evidence of quark internal structure.
