Mask Detection
Mask Detection is an automated feature in Lightroom Classic that utilizes artificial intelligence to generate selection masks with a single click. Instead of requiring users to manually draw or paint precise selections, the tool applies pre-configured AI presets to automatically identify and isolate specific elements within an image. This functionality streamlines the editing workflow by significantly reducing the time traditionally spent on manual masking tasks.
The system primarily supports two distinct categories of detection: landscape and people photography. In landscape mode, the AI identifies key components such as the sky, foreground, and midground, allowing for targeted adjustments to exposure, color, and clarity without affecting other parts of the scene. This is particularly useful for balancing high-contrast scenes where manual masking would be tedious.
For people photography, the feature detects subjects to create masks for skin, eyes, teeth, and hair. These specific masks enable precise retouching and enhancement, such as smoothing skin or brightening eyes, while preserving natural textures and details. The ability to isolate these elements automatically ensures that edits remain localized and accurate, supporting efficient post-processing for portrait work.
