Supervolcano

A supervolcano is a volcano capable of producing an eruption of magnitude eight on the Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI), which indicates an enormous eruptive event. These eruptions release more than 1,000 km³ of magma and are characterized by massive pyroclastic flows that can cover large areas. The term “supervolcano” does not have a precise scientific definition but is used to describe volcanoes with the potential for extraordinarily devastating effects.
