Iran

Iran is a country located in Western Asia, bordered by the Caspian Sea to the north and the Persian Gulf to the south. With a population of approximately 88 million people, it is one of the most populous countries in the region. The capital and largest city is Tehran. Iran has a rich history spanning thousands of years and is home to one of the world’s oldest continuous civilizations.

Geography and Resources

The country covers an area of approximately 1.65 million square kilometers and is characterized by diverse terrain including mountains, deserts, and coastal plains. Iran possesses significant natural resources, particularly substantial oil and natural gas reserves, which have played a central role in its economy and international relations. The Zagros Mountains dominate much of the western landscape, while the central plateau forms the interior.

Government and Society

Iran is an Islamic Republic with a complex political system combining elements of democracy and theocratic rule. Persian is the official language, and Islam is the official religion, with Shia Islam being the predominant denomination. The country has experienced significant political and social change throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, including the 1979 Islamic Revolution that transformed its political structure.

Economy and Challenges

The Iranian economy is heavily dependent on oil and gas exports, though it has faced considerable challenges including international sanctions, currency fluctuations, and infrastructure constraints. In recent years, Iran has faced a severe water crisis driven by drought, overexploitation of aquifers, and climate change, affecting agriculture and urban populations alike.
