Autofocus Mode

Autofocus mode refers to the camera’s ability to automatically adjust lens focus to achieve sharp images of a subject. In Fujifilm cameras, autofocus functionality is a core feature that determines how the camera locks focus on subjects and maintains sharpness during shooting. The autofocus system works by detecting contrast in the scene and adjusting the lens elements accordingly to bring the subject into focus. This automatic adjustment eliminates the need for manual focus adjustment.

Focus Modes

Fujifilm cameras typically offer multiple autofocus modes to suit different shooting scenarios. Single autofocus mode locks focus on a subject when the shutter button is half-pressed and maintains that focus point for the duration of the exposure. Continuous autofocus mode actively tracks moving subjects, continuously adjusting focus as the subject moves within the frame. These modes allow photographers to choose the most appropriate focusing behavior for their subject matter and shooting conditions.

Autofocus Lock

The autofocus lock feature allows photographers to lock focus on a specific subject or area before fully composing the shot. By engaging the AF lock—typically through a dedicated button or by holding the shutter button halfway—the camera maintains focus on that point even if the subject moves or the photographer reframes. This feature is particularly useful for ensuring critical focus on specific areas of the composition, especially in situations where the subject may not remain in the center of the frame.
