Color Contrast
Color contrast refers to the visual difference between colors in an image, determined by their positions on the color wheel and their relative brightness or saturation levels. Strong color contrast draws the viewer’s eye and creates visual interest, while subtle contrast produces harmony and cohesion. Photographers and digital artists use color contrast as a fundamental tool for composition and emphasis.
In Digital Photography
Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe’s raw image processing software, includes tools for managing color contrast in post-production workflows. The Variance slider is a feature within Camera Raw that allows photographers to adjust the relationship between color saturation and luminance, providing more granular control over how colors interact within an image. This tool enables users to modify color contrast without necessarily affecting overall image brightness or saturation uniformly.
