Range

In image-editing, Range denotes the spectrum of values (e.g., color, luminance) within which adjustments apply. A variance slider extends this by defining the tolerance for variation from a selected reference point.

  • Color Selection: Using the eyedropper tool to define a base color (e.g., green from trees) as the center of the range.
  • Variance Control: Adjusting the variance slider to expand or contract the range of affected colors (e.g., including only precise hues or a broader spectrum of similar colors within Adobe Camera Raw’s point-color feature).
  • Adobe Camera Raw (Early Access): The Variance tool, located in the Point Color section of the Color Mixer, allows users to control the range of colors affected by a Point Color adjustment after sampling a specific color.
